Whispering Wisdom

The thief does not come except to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

Like the beating of a drum in your ear, the world steadily beats the message....You need more! More acknowledgment, more success, more money, and more stuff.

It begins in childhood. Children go to school and very quickly learn to compare themselves to others. After all, they are "graded" on how well they perform on set tasks. Sadly, not necessarily the tasks or skills that the Lord has designed them for, or calls them to do.

Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit whispers wisdom...

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children... Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Next, come the teen years filled with social media. The drum gets louder and the comparisons and the desire to fit in are at an all time high. Teens just want to be seen and heard. They will do whatever it takes to make this happen.

Holy Spirit whispers more wisdom...

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13

The pressure of college comes next. The world taunts this is the only path to success. Anything less is not worth a grain of salt. It has become the pearl of great price.

Again Holy Spirit whispers wisdom...

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without Me you can do nothing. John15:5

And then comes adult life. A life now filled with expectations to perform, "arrive", and have it all.

Holy Spirit whispers...

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trapand into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 1Timothy 6: 6-9

Finally, retirement. But before that, the world roars fear about how you must hustle and put aside A LOT of money if you want to be happy in your retirement years.

Holy Spirit whispers...

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Matthew 6:26

Why do we live such complicated lives? Why can't we just slow down and listen? Did our grand and great grandparents live like this? Certainly not.

It has become obvious that there is a system in place; a system of control. It seems like the only way to survive is to comply...

Give us your children! We know what is best. Parents, stand back and be quiet.

Put your money here and there! No, wait! Now put it here, but first, we get our share!

Take this drug for your health issue even though it will cause you 5 more conditions on top of that. Don't ask questions, just accept that we know best.

No need to guard your heart, let it roam and go wherever it decides. You are the master of your fate.

How have we gotten so far away from the Lord and from obeying His Word?

All that I want is the simple, abundant life that Jesus promises. A life free from the world's system and pressure to comply. How about you?

It all starts in your heart. Give Jesus your whole heart. Not just a corner of it to tap into when you need it.

Seek first His Kingdom. Truly, seek. You will find!

Pray with me....

Heavenly Father,

Forgive us. Forgive me. We seek everything but You, at times. Forgive us for putting everything else in front of You. Forgive us for not trusting and resting in You alone like we should. and waiting on Your still, small voice.

Lead us into a more simple life of obedience and a life that hungers for You more than anything else in this world.

We lay down our lives in surrender to You. Lead us in paths of righteousness and deliver us from every evil that tries to ensnare and enslave us. Use us for YOUR glory as we seek You, day by day.

In Jesus name, Amen

Hit the button below to get the devotional pages that I use nearly everyday to draw closer to God. I use it to express my gratitude for all He has given me and my family. I seek His Word, surrender my heart in prayer, and jot down any "downloads" that He may give me that day. Feel free to print this out and use as you wish. My prayer, as always, is that your walk with Him goes deeper and that this tool will help you with that.

Be blessed!
