So Very Thankful
Updated: Feb 16, 2022
"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Thanksgiving is upon us. A time to focus on gratitude and give thanks for our many blessings. I love this time of year so much! We all have much to be thankful for. I love to count blessings. It is something that I do everyday of the year. I write out 3 things that I am grateful for in my journal each morning. I have been doing this simple practice for over 15 years. I believe that this little routine has deeply changed me.
To choose to focus on what we are thankful for each morning points our mind and heart in the right direction at the start of each day. It lifts you and fills your heart with warmth and love.
I started this habit after I read Ann Voskamp's book, "One Thousand Gifts". This is still one of my favorite books today. I love to go back to it again and again. Ann taught me so much about gratitude and how practicing it shifts our thought patterns.
The Heavens Declare
I sit and write this today as I watch the sun rise in the eastern sky. The blaze of orange has begun to spread above the horizon. The skies blue hint enlightens just above the orange glow. The morning is quiet. Peace live a river flows in my heart. The glowing colors of orange and blue feel like a glimpse in to eternity as the heavens declare the glory of God. Oh, how I love to watch the sun rise and set each day.
As you enter in to this Thanksgiving week, ponder deep about what you have to be thankful for. Let your mind wander and give thanks for every little thing...a warm cup of coffee, a soft blanket, a good book. Start to count each one and write them down. Morning by morning, fill up a journal with your gratitude and watch it change your life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank you for all that You have given to me. My blessings are many. Use me God, use me. Let all that I am and all that I do be done unto You and for Your glory. Let my life be like the orange glow of the sunrise. Let it shine bright and cast out the shadows of night. Fill my days with Your purpose and plan. Help me not to grip my agenda for each day. Enable me to hold my plans loosely so that I leave room for what you have for me to do. Your will be done in my life as I learn to be grateful and surrender to Your will.
In Jesus Name, Amen
