In Jesus Name

The name Jesus, or Yeshua in Hebrew, means salvation.

John 14:13-15 tells us this.

“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, you will keep My commandments."

When we pray as Christ instructed us, we typically close our prayer by saying in Jesus Name. But do we really understand the power that belongs to us as Christ followers praying in His name?

Once we give our lives to Christ, the Bible says that we become ambassadors.

"We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." 2 Corinthians 5:20

Merriam - Webster defines an ambassador as an authorized representative or messenger.

When a leader or president of a country sends an ambassador to another country in their place, it is as if the king or president is actually there. The ambassador is so closely tied to the leader or president that his words are very similar to what the leader would say. The leader has full confidence in the ambassador to represent him well.

So, as we pray and rely on the Holy Spirit to speak through us, we are Christ's ambassadors speaking on His behalf. When we say in Jesus Name we proclaim our position as Christ's ambassadors and so much more.

The name of Jesus holds more power and authority than we can imagine.

Jesus' name has the power to save.

"There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” ~Acts: 12

Jesus' name is the gateway to the Father and His blessings.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full." ~John 16:23-24

Jesus' name is ABOVE every name.

"Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." ~Philippians 2: 9-11

Every name must bow before our King. Do we comprehend what this really means? I didn't until now. Every name includes the names of illnesses, like cancer, diabetes, autism, and on and on. Every name includes the names of mental illness like depression, anxiety and eating disorders. All of these names must bow to the name of Jesus!

Jesus' name has the power to heal.

"These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” ~Mark 16:17-18

Why do we have such a hard time believing this one? Why do we assume it was only meant for the disciples and the early church? Why don't we believe the power of Holy Spirit is still alive and well? Why do we limit God with our unbelief?

Jesus' name makes the enemy tremble and flee.

"You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror." ~James 2:19

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." ~James 4:7

Several months ago I had a very powerful dream that has not left me. I can still see it in my mind's eye. Dreams rarely stick with me. I most often forget them as soon as I wake up. Not this one. In this dream I was being instructed how to make demons flee. Someone was standing next to me but I could not see them. I could only hear their voice teaching me and instructing me. A demon was suddenly in front of us and the voice said, "In Jesus name you must flee." And sure enough, I watched the thing cower down and flee! This repeated several times and I said, "That is it? That is all it takes?" The voice said, "Yes!" It then said, "I want you to try it." I remember feeling very intimidated and afraid. The voice pushed me, "Try it." When the next demon came and stood right in front of me snarling, "I said boldly, "In Jesus name you have to flee!" It did! I was astounded and elated all at once. The voice instructed me to do it over and over until I felt confident that I could do it without instruction. Then as I began to stir and wake up, I heard this phrase, "In Jesus name you have to flee, in Jesus name I am free."

Since the dream, I have used the phrase many times as I have felt attacks come into my life in many areas. Sometimes I do it boldly. But to be very honest, sometimes I do it shaking and trembling and lacking faith. How can my faith be so weak when I know the power of my Jesus' name? I am frail and I am weak. How is it that I am still that little girl trembling under the covers afraid of the monster under my bed? Guess what? It doesn't even matter. When I am weak, He is strong!

I encourage you, dear friend with these words today. Take hold of the power that belongs to you as an ambassador for Christ and tell the demons taunting you to flee in Jesus Mighty Name. Don't stop until they leave. We have been given the authority. It is up to us to use it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, God of Might and Power,

We come to you today to give You all the praise and glory. Holy is Your name. Thank you for Your Word. Thank You for making us ambassadors and showing us the power of Jesus Name. Show us who we are in Christ more and more; teach us how to fight the battles that war against us. We know that we don't fight against flesh and blood, but instead against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world's darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We put on the full armor of God and take our stance, yet we depend completely upon You to help us. In our weakness, be our strength and refuge. Our hope is in You alone. In Jesus Name
