Generosity of God

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

"Let the generosity of God open you to the world." ~Joyce Rupp

In this age of selfies and self promotion, it is easy to get yourself out there and show your best self to the world. However, what does it look like to let God promote you?

What if you keep your head down to do the work and let him open you up to the world in His time?

Think of David as a young boy working out in the field as a shepherd. His head was down and he was busy doing his work when he was chosen to be King. Think of Joseph who was thrown in the pit, left to die. Once he was rescued, he spent years with his head down doing the work right in front of him until he was chosen to rule Egypt. Neither of these young men had a clue what was to come as they had their heads down working. Did they hear whispers in their heart about these dreams long before they came true? They sure did!

Is your head down? Are you focusing on the tasks right in front of you while you dream of more?

The more that we lean in and rest in God, the more our lives will be orchestrated by Him; according to His plan, His timing and His will. Sometimes, He takes us down long, twisted paths before He will open new doors for us. Other times He has us in the waiting room for reasons we do not understand. He does not abandon us there. We can't see why we are there, or what He is accomplishing. There is a pruning that takes place in waiting. Dead pieces need to be pruned off to allow more life to grow. Waiting builds trust because we learn that His timing is better than ours.

Do you trust His plan above your own?

Does your heart desire some big things? Has He put some dreams in your heart? Are you spending enough time with your head down working on the things He has put right in front of you?

Maybe right now it is a matter of building a few great habits into your day. Habits that strengthen your heart, mind and body. Spending that early morning time to seek first His kingdom so that He can establish the work of your hands the rest of the day. Doing the work that is right in front of you; investing in the lives all around you; keeping your head down focused with your heart trusting this Generous God as He unfolds His plan for your life.

"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up." ~Psalm 5:3

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

~Matthew 6:33
