A Heart to Obey

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

"And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, ad he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness." ~Deuteronomy 6:25

God wants hearts of obedience

Just as God commands children to obey their parents, He commands us to obey Him. To obey Him, we must be childlike. To be childlike is to be surrendered. When our will is surrendered, our hearts are open to hear His voice. In Chapter 6 of Deuteronomy, Moses is instructing his followers to love the LORD with all of their hearts. He is pleading with them to keep their love of God first and to pass this love unto their children.

"And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." ~Deuteronomy 6:7

God knows that when the Israelites enter the land flowing with milk and honey, life will be good. The people will become soft as their lives become easy. People tend to wander from God when the pressure is off. People forget God and start living in their own strength.

Moses instructs them to write God's commands on their hands, forehead, and on their door frames. Whatever it takes! Just don't forget WHO lead you out of captivity.

"Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage." ~Deuteronomy 6:12

Oh my friend, how is your walk with God? Have you grown comfortable in your routine each day and let your time with Him slip away?

Come back. Sit at His feet and savor His sweet presence. Surrender each day and let Him recalibrate your mind, your heart and soul. He loves you more than you can comprehend.

In order to obey Him, we must first heed His voice

"Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken (to listen attentively, to hear in order to obey) than the fat of rams.(the sacrifice)". ~1 Samuel 15:22
